The UXO Lao Visitors Centre in Luang Prabang is an educational center where visitors can learn about the problems caused by unexploded ordnance left behind after the end of the the Second Indochina War and the courageous work of the Lao National Unexploded Ordnance Programme (UXO Lao) to clear this dangerous ordnance.
The UXO Visitors Center is a ‘must see’ for those who travel to Luang Prabang province with real-life bombies on display, victims and survivor stories told on the walls in the center and a moving documentary to view – you’ll have the chance to learn important and tragic facts about the Secret War.
This free admittance center features information about unexploded ordnance, for what Lao PDR is the most heavily bombed country, per capita, in history.
The UXO Laos Visitor Center is located behind the Souphanouvong Monument in Wat Naviengkham village at the center of Luang Prabang city.
This important museum in Luang Prabang features an extremely informative exhibition on the existence of UXOs (unexploded ordnance) in Laos, and the efforts being taken to help clear them. It is quite unfortunate that Laos is one of the most heavily bombed countries in the world, and the impact of UXOs are still being felt to this day. By visiting this UXO center, you will gain a good understanding on how Lao people cope with UXOs and other dangerous remnants from the war daily.
The UXO Laos Visitors Center is one of the most important places to visit in Luang Prabang. It features a simple, but highly informative exhibit that details some of the more disheartening consequence of being heavily bombed during the Vietnam War.
This center is highly educational and suitable for students, tourists and families with young children.
The UXO Laos Visitor Center is open from 08:00am to 11:30am and 13:00pm to 16:00pm on Monday through Friday. Admission to the museum is free, but donations are welcome to anyone who enjoys their visit.
