On March 4th, 2024, UXO Lao welcomed the Co- Chairs of the UXO Sector Working Group in Lao PDR led by H.E. Mr. Phoxay Khaykhamphithoune, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Standing Vice Chairperson of NRA and Ms. Heather Variava, U.S. Ambassador to Lao PDR, and Ms. Martine Therer, UNDP Resident Representative in Lao PDR, along with delegation from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NRA​ Office,​ Savannakhet local authorities, U.S Embassy in Lao PDR, UNDP in Lao PDR and Tetra Tech visited to the UXO clearance site of UXO Lao in Phosi Village, Phalanxay District, Savannakhet Province.

For this visit, the delegation was briefed by UXO Lao National Programme Director, Mr. Anousak Phongsa detailing UXO Lao achievements at all works since 1996 as well as operational processes and work targets of UXO Lao in 2024. In addition, field operational teams of UXO Lao Savannakhet also briefed the delegation on UXO Lao operations in Phosi Village.

During the visit, the delegation observed field operations and UXO items found and the actual UXO destruction at the site which the UXO disposal was made by the U.S. Ambassador to Lao PDR that helped UXO Lao press a button to destroy. Currently, the U.S. Government is providing funding support to UXO Lao with focus on six provinces including Luang Prabang, Huaphan, Khammuane, Savannakhet, Salavan and Attapeu, where UXO Lao is working with 79 operational teams including: 54 area clearance teams, 10 technical survey teams, 6 non-technical survey teams, 5 explosive ordnance risk education teams and 4 manual vegetation cutting teams.
