Bolikhamxay Province – The Lao National Unexploded Ordnance Programme (UXO Lao) successfully concluded its 2024 Annual Review Meeting and Work Planning for 2025, held from 13 to 15 November 2024 in Paksan District. The last day of the meeting was chaired by Mr. Phongxaisak Inthalath, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, and brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UXO Lao headquarters, nine provincial UXO Lao offices, Tetra Tech, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Lao PDR.
In his opening remarks, the Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Mr. Phongxaisak Inthalath, emphasized the importance of strengthening regulatory frameworks and operational consistency. Mr. Phongxaisak also highlighted the importance of engaging local authorities and communities to improve understanding of UXO Lao operations. In addition, to standardize field operations across provinces, the Deputy Minister introduced a revised working calendar for field teams.
The three-day meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on the progress and challenges of UXO Lao’s activities in 2024. Participants reviewed achievements across all provinces, engaged in technical discussions to address pending issues, and shared lessons learned to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness. The meeting also outlined a detailed work plan for 2025, setting clear targets to advance unexploded ordnance clearance and risk education efforts nationwide.
The meeting concluded on 15 November 2024, reaffirming UXO Lao’s commitment to enhancing its operational effectiveness and contributing to the safety and development of communities affected by unexploded ordnance.
