Ito Supporting Comity (ISC) from Japan handed over essential equipment and materials to UXO Lao to carry out explosive ordnance risk education activities across 9 contaminated provinces where UXO Lao operates, which aims to reducing the number of UXO-related accidents and casualties.

A handover ceremony was held on September 18, 2025, at the UXO Lao Headquarters office in Vientiane capital. The event was attended by Mr. Anousak Phongsa, National Programme Director of UXO Lao and Mr. Kino Hiroaki, ISC Board of Director and other attendees from both parties.

Since 2006, ISC has provided assistance to UXO Lao for four-times, and this is the fifth time of their contributions. The donation is valued USD20,000 to support the procurement of necessary equipment and production of promotional materials for the implementation of UXO Lao’s explosive ordnance risk education activities.

UXO Lao Director expressed his gratitude to ISC for their generous support UXO Lao and emphasizing that “the support from ISC is a direct contribution to the Lao government’s effort in reducing the number of UXO-related accidents and casualties as well as the poverty reduction for the people of Laos”.

Mr. Kino Hiroaki expressed his sincerely thanks to UXO Lao for warm hospitality and delivered message from ISC President, stating that “It’s been almost ten years since my last visit to UXO Lao, I still recall that Lao PDR is affecting from legacies of the second Indochina war and I really impress that UXO Lao remains active to address the problem of UXO contamination in Lao PDR. Although this assistance is modest in value, I believe that if we keep moving forward, a wider of peace can be expanded and protecting more lives”.

In addition, ISC delegation also had chance to visit and observe field operations as well as visited UXO Lao’s Visitor Center in Luang Prabang province.

UXO Lao express its gratitude to ISC for their generous support and hope that ISC will continue providing assistance to UXO Lao in the future.
