On October 15, 2025, the UXO Visitor Center of UXO Lao Luang Prabang had the honor of welcoming Mr. TANAKA Akihiko, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and his delegation.

The visit was hosted by Mr. Phonepasert Souphatthone, Provincial Chief of Luang Prabang, Mr. Khamlar Borliboun, Deputy Provincial Chief, and Mr. SAGIYA Daisuke, Chief Advisor of UXO Lao-JICA project, along with UXO Lao staff. The delegation toured the center and received an overview of the UXO situation in Lao PDR, clearance operations, and the support provided by international donors, including JICA.

During the visit, Mr. Sagiya delivered a presentation on the project for “Human Resource Development to Strengthen the Organizational Capacity of UXO Lao.” The session highlighted ongoing cooperation aimed at enhancing capacity development and supporting the formulation of UXO Lao’s Strategic Plan (2027–2036), designed to promote sustainable UXO management and strengthening institutional capability.

JICA has long been a key partner in UXO clearance efforts in Lao PDR. Through JICA, Japan has provided essential technical cooperation that has improved the efficiency and impact of UXO survey and clearance operations and promoted international collaboration for safer and more sustainable land use in affected areas.
