From 4 – 24 December 2025, UXO Lao successfully conducted training on the use of ALIS equipment in Paksong District, Champasak Province. The training was implemented with cooperation and technical guidance from the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC).
This activity marked the first follow-up training following the completion of the basic operational training held in August 2025 in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. During this course, the equipment was pilot-tested in both training field and actual UXO-contaminated field affected by cluster sub-munitions to evaluate its operational effectiveness.
The Advanced Land Imaging System (ALIS) is a Japanese technology developed by Professor Sato Motoyuki of Tohoku University, Japan. The equipment is schedule to be pilot deployed in cluster sub-munition contaminated areas which are the operational sites of UXO Lao in Salavan, Sekong and Champasak Provinces in early 2026, with financial support from the Government of Japan through JICS.
The innovation, continued research and development of new technologies will contribute to accelerating efforts to address the UXO problem, enhance community safety, and enable people to live free from the fear of unexploded ordnance.
