In areas where access to transportation remains challenging, our team continues to make every effort to ensure that the Lao people can live in safety.

The field operations team of UXO Lao in Sekong Province was deployed to conduct technical verification of aerial bombs in Bak Village and Krung Tasing Village, Kaleum District, after villagers reported the discovery of nine aerial bombs along the Sekong River. The devices had become exposed and visible due to riverbank erosion.

Based on the technical verification, the nine aerial bombs consisted of seven MK82 bombs, each weighing 500 pounds (226.7 kilograms), and two MK81 bombs, each weighing 250 pounds (113.3 kilograms). The field team transported the bombs by boat to a designated demolition site, where they will be safely destroyed in accordance with established technical procedures. This mission will be carried out for 5 days to complete, from 5 to 9 March 2026.

We commend all members of the field team for their dedication and strong sense of responsibility in fulfilling their duties to help safeguard the community. We also express our sincere appreciation to the Government of Japan for its continued support of the UXO Lao operations in Sekong Province.
