Lao National Unexploded Ordnance Programme (UXO Lao), in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), successfully convened a sounding-out meeting on the UXO Lao (draft) Strategic Plan 2027–2036.

The meeting was held on 30 June 2026 in Vientiane Capital and was chaired by Mr. Anousak Phongsa, National Programme Director of UXO Lao, under the Project for Human Resource Development to Strengthen Organizational Capacity of UXO Lao, which is supported by JICA. The event was attended by representatives from relevant ministries, development partners, and the embassies of donor countries.

The meeting aimed to present and sound out the UXO Lao (draft) Strategic Plan 2027–2036, providing an opportunity for development partners and other key stakeholders to discuss, exchange views, and provide constructive feedback on the draft to seek input from various stakeholders to actively participate in the refinement of the strategy. The draft Strategic Plan was developed based on a concept paper, as well as the consolidation of key comments and questionnaire responses collected from UXO Lao provincial offices and UXO Lao headquarters in 2025. With technical support from JICA, these inputs were further developed into a draft comprehensive long-term strategic plan in 2026.

Throughout the consultation in the meeting, development partners and stakeholders provided active and constructive comments and recommendations on the draft strategy. Following the incorporation of these recommendations and the achievement of broad stakeholder consensus, the draft will be finalized as the UXO Lao Strategic Plan 2027–2036 and the complete strategic plan will serve as a guiding framework for strengthening and enhancing the effectiveness of the implementation of UXO Lao in the years ahead.
